IHMC Robotics Camp

IHMC’s 2020 Robotics Summer Camp offers middle school students the opportunity to learn about computer programming and robots. Campers will work in teams to master Lego Mindstorms challenges. They will further develop their teamwork skills, their confidence in problem solving, and their creativity. Campers will hear several short presentations about state-of-the-art research at IHMC, and they will have the opportunity to eat lunch with an IHMC research scientist, in small groups. In Pensacola, camp includes a tour of the IHMC robotics lab.
The Pensacola summer robotics camps will take place July 20 – 23 (for rising 7th and 8th graders) and July 27-30 (for rising 8th and 9th graders.) In Ocala, the 2020 summer robotics camps will be offered the weeks of July 13-16 (for rising 7th and 8th graders) and July 27 – 30 (for rising 8th and 9th graders.)
No previous experience with robots or programming is needed for any of the four sessions. All campers will be partnered with another student with similar levels of experience. For many campers this is their first robotics experience, other campers join us several years in a row. This is very fun summer STEM camp!
Financial assistance is available for qualified families. Volunteer opportunities with credit towards Bright Futures scholarships are available for rising 11th and 12th graders.

Pensacola with Kids | Blueberry Picking 2017

Those sweet blueberries are ripe and ready for picking in the Pensacola area!  Blueberry picking is such a fun family-friendly activity.  Not only is it a reasonably priced activity, but you also get to take home a product for your money spent!

Most blueberry farms provide gallon buckets to use during blueberry picking but you can also bring your own buckets or baskets to use.

Things to Know Before You Go:

  • Bring an empty cooler with you.  If you plan on picking more than a few pounds of blueberries, you will want an empty cooler to put the berries in.  Not only will it keep them cool in the hot sun, but it will also keep the berries off of the ground where ants can find them.   It doubles as a good seat for tired children, too!
  • Bring a small cooler full of ice, water, drinks of your choice and snacks depending on how long you will be out there.
  • Hats and sunscreen will keep you protected out in the hot sun.
  • Bubbles or something just as quiet will keep the kids entertained when they are finished picking blueberries but you are not.
  • We bring plastic bags to pour the blueberries in if we are still picking but our buckets are full!
  • Be sure to bring cash.  Some blueberry farms take checks but most are cash only.

Here are some blueberry farms in the area in alphabetical order.  If you know of one to add to the list, leave us a comment!  I listed the hours and price from their websites/Facebook pages.  Remember these hours and prices are always subject to change.  Call to confirm before you go.

If you know of any other farms near here, please message our Facebook Page.
