The Santa Rosa County Fair will be held from April 6th to April 14th. It will be closed on April 9th and 10th. There are different ticket options throughout the week including wristbands, kid’s night and more. There will be an egg hunt on Sunday, April 8th.

October already? Am I the only one saying this? It seems like the kids just started school the other day and now it is time to start looking for Halloween costumes and holiday decorations. One of our favorite things to do in October is visit the corn and hay mazes in the area. We usually try to visit one a weekend. The kids absolutely love it and my oldest has gotten quite good at getting out of the maze!
Be sure to follow the links or phone ahead of time to confirm dates and times. Most of the corn mazes take cash or check only so be sure to check before you go. They are listed in alphabetical order.
Beaver Creek Maze, Baker, Florida – Beaver Creek Maze offers a corn maze, a hay bale maze for the younger kids, and a pumpkin patch. Beaver Creek Maze is open Saturdays 9 – 5 and Sundays 11 – 5 during the month of October. Admission is free for children 3 and under and $5.00 for everyone else. They are located at 278 Dusty Trail in Baker, Florida and their phone number is 850-537-1981.
Dixon Primary’s Haystackular, Pace, Florida – Haystackular is the largest hay bale maze constructed in Northwest Florida! There is a maze, food for sale, hay ride and more. Haystackular is open during the month of October on Fridays from 4pm to 9pm, Saturdays from 12pm to 9pm, and Sundays from 12pm to 6pm. Admission is $5 and some activities have an additional cost associated with them. They are located at the field across from Dixon Primary in Pace.
Magnolia Corn Maze, Magnolia Springs, Alabama – Magnolia Corn Maze offers the maze, corn cannon, cow train, hayride, petting zoo, pony rides and more. Magnolia Corn Maze is open during the month of October on Fridays from 5pm to 9pm, Saturdays 11am to 9pm, and Sundays 12pm to 5pm. Admission is $10 and there are other activities with some additional cost associated with them. They are located on CR49 in Magnolia Springs. Directions are available on the website. Seward Farms, Lucedale, Mississippi – This corn maze is probably the furthest away but it came highly recommended last year so I thought that I would keep it on the list in case you were headed that direction! Seward Farms offers a corn maze, pig races, hayride, farm animals, corn cannon, jumping “pillow”, and more. Seward Farms is open Saturdays, Sept. 24-Nov. 5, from 10 am to 9 pm. They are closed Sundays. Admission prices begin at $12. They are located at 10836 Tanner Williams Road in Lucedale, Mississippi.
Sweet Season Farms, Milton, Florida – Sweet Season Farms offers the corn maze, haybale maze, cow train, playground, corn cannon and more. Sweet Season Farms is open October 1-November 6th on Saturdays from 9am to 5pm and Sundays from 1pm to 5pm. Admission is $5 and there are additional activities available at an additional cost. They are located at 2260 Horn Road in Milton and their phone number is 850-675-3573.

Sweet Season Farms is opening up on October 1 for their fall season. They will be open on Saturdays from 9 to 5 and Sundays from 1-5. They will be open October 1 until November 6th. I have been in touch with Sharon from Sweet Seasons and she has said:
**Update: I just got an email from Sharon and she said that the corn has grown to 4.5 feet in most spots! Perfect for kids to get lost in!
And so is the plight of the farmer! Unfortunately, this year our corn is only 2-4 feet tall due to drought.HOWEVER – We will still be OPEN and still have your favorite farm activities at a discounted price! $5.00 for EVERYONE (ages 3 and up) gets you in the farm! Visiting a farm is the perfect family activity! Even though the corn isn’t tall enough for adults and big kids to get lost in doesn’t mean that you can’t have a fun time at the farm! We think there are lots of reasons to visit Sweet Season Farms!

What: pumpkin patch; Where: 2055 Homer Holland Road, Milton, Fl; When: Monday through Saturday 8 am-6pm, Sunday 1pm-6pm; Cost: $8 for pumpkin and all activities or $5 for pumpkin
Beginning on October 1 and continuing through the month of October, Holland Farms will welcome people to their pumpkin patch for a fun family outing. Last year, we were so excited to find a real pumpkin patch where you can go out and pick your own pumpkin!
Holland Farms is a family owned peanut, produce, and row crop farm. It is located in Milton, Florida. It isn’t located too far from Sweet Seasons Farm (which we will be talking about tomorrow!) so you could plan a whole day of farm visits!
All month long, Holland Farms will be offering visitors a chance to pick their own pumpkins from the pumpkin patch, take a hay ride, walk on the hiking trails and just relax and enjoy farm life! Visitors receive a cup of boiled peanuts to eat on the front porch or take home for later. For $8 a person, you will receive a wristband that will get you a hay ride, all other activities, and one pumpkin. For $5 each, you can purchase a pumpkin.
On October 1, Holland Farms will hold their Customer Appreciation Day with live music and a cup of boiled peanuts.

This weekend I am joining a group of travel writers and bloggers who will be visiting Santa Rosa County. I am excited to play tourist in my own area and learn about some places and attractions that I might have otherwise overlooked. One of the activities on the itinerary is the Milton Fall Rodeo and Frontier Days.
The Milton Fall Rodeo and Frontier Days will be held on Friday, September 23, and Saturday, September 24, at 7pm at the East Milton Recreation Park. There will be a rodeo clown, a calf scramble, live music, concessions, a mechanical bull and more. This is the 2nd annual rodeo. Did you go last year? If so, let us know what you thought of it!

Today I am welcoming Ashley to Pensacola with Kids with her guest post about Cambridge Farms! I was so excited when she offered to write up a post about Cambridge Farms because it is on our list of places to visit but we just haven’t gotten there yet. Thanks for your post, Ashley!
I really love the simple life of a farm, don’t you? That’s why on a mid-Sunday afternoon we decided to venture out to Cambridge Farms in Milton, Fl. It looked like quite a drive on my phone’s map, but it was a nice scenic ride through the country! Newly planted fields in prep for the fall crops surrounded the road. We saw cows, horses, and even had a few opportunities along the way to stop and buy the farms produce out by the road. And I spotted Holland Farms, which is a great place to visit in the fall.
Once we found the farm, (they have little signs posted) we drove down a long bumpy dirt road. At the end, there was a cute small house with a big nice porch, and a barn-like structure. The really nice owners immediately greeted us, and offered to give us a tour of their animals. We saw lots of ducks, geese, huge turkeys, chickens, etc. The goats greeted us as we walked up, and one of their potbelly pigs! We got to see the peacock resting under a tree. And the best part is, most of their animals are rescues. They really educate you about the animals, and you can really tell they love what they do. The animals were so well taken care of! This farm is one of the most natural farms I’ve seen, they use zero chemicals/pesticides and make their own compost. They are one of Florida’s few natural vineyards!
The blueberries from Cambridge Farms were awesome! They had huge bushes with sweet delicious berries. They were full with ripe berries but still had plenty of ones that will be ready over the next couple weeks. For a 5lb buckets its $7.00. We filled ours up ¾ of the way and bought a bumper sticker all for $7.00. They also had a nice porch with plenty of seating. L and I sat here while hubby broke into our car with the keys locked inside. L Tom even sent me an e-mail saying they now offer “moonlight pickings” on Friday evenings. They have live music, and blueberry picking from 6-9, so it’s cooler in the evening to pick. I’m sure this farm as much more than what we saw, we will be visiting again in the fall for the U-pick grapes!

We spent a lot of 2010 exploring Pensacola and the surrounding areas. We made an effort to find more free activities and to try new places that we usually skip over. Over the past year we had a few family favorites and in honor of the new year I would like to share them with you! There is no scientific data to this post…I just asked my kids and my husband what they liked to do the best! Here is our top ten activities of 2010 in no particular order:
Arcadia Mill - Of all our nature walks this year, Arcadia Mill was our favorite with boardwalks, a swinging bridge, and lots of wildlife and plant life.
Picking blueberries and strawberries – We loved picking blueberries at A and N blueberries and strawberries at Andrew’s Sod and Fruit. I still have a freezer full of both because I have been rationing them out! In 2011, I hope to visit both places again to stock up on strawberries and blueberries. I have heard from a friend about a place nearby where you can pick grapes so we are going to try it out.
The opening of the Roger Scott Pool - We were only able to make it three or four times, but the whole time we were at the newly remodeled Roger Scott Pool we all laughed, and splashed, and played. I hope to make it a regular outing when it opens in the summer of 2011.
Picking our own Halloween pumpkins out of a real pumpkin patch - For years, I watched with jealousy as my friends living in more northern areas got to go to real pumpkin patches. They picked their pumpkins (and usually apples, too!), took pictures and drank hot cups of hot cider. I was so excited to hear about Holland Farms and the pumpkin patch that they had available to the public. We spent several hours running around and looking at the pumpkins. I hope that it was such a success for Holland Farms that they decide to open a pumpkin patch this year!
Aviation Discovery Park - As we explored new park after new park this year, my kids asked several times to go back to the “airplane” park. Even though there isn’t much to do as far as playground equipment goes, it has the allure of sitting on the flight line of the Pensacola airport. You can listen to speakers blasting the air traffic control chatter as you watch planes of all sizes land and take off.
Bellingrath Gardens - If you haven’t made the drive to Bellingrath Gardens in Theodore, Alabama, I highly recommend that you put it on this year’s list of activities. It is perfect for the child that loves to be outside and explore.
Blackwater Heritage State Trail - We loaded up the kids’ bikes and made the drive to Milton to ride them! The kids loved all the stop signs and bridges we saw while we explored a very small portion of the trail. Hopefully, this year we can explore some of the more rural areas of the trail.
Geocaching with the kids - We spent an afternoon wandering around the UWF campus and going where our GPS (and 5 year old) led us. We had fun treasure hunting and are looking forward to more geocaching in the future!
Sanders Beach-Corinne Jones Community Center and Park – I think this park has one of the most beautiful views in Pensacola. Who can complain while you are sitting under a shady tree, looking at the water, and letting your kids run off some serious energy at a great park!
Waffle Cone Wednesday- This was one of our tasty finds…every Wednesday, TCBY offered a full sized waffle cone for NINETY NINE cents!!! What a deal! It was a great way to get a cool treat on a super hot summer day. I haven’t been in awhile, so call before you go, but I believe they are still running this special!

First Night Santa Rosa is a family friendly New Year’s Eve celebration. There will be an outdoor concert, a talent show, and a Kid’s Fun Zone with inflatables, rock climbing walls, crafts and more! There will also be a firework show!
Admission is $5 in advance, $7.50 at the gate. Children under the age of 5 are FREE! Tickets can be purchased in advance at any Pen Air Federal Credit Union, Fine Things on Dogwood in Milton or Addie’s on Highway 90.
The event will be held at the East Milton Ball Park, 8600 Bobby Brown Drive, Milton, Florida.
Most of the schools are out in honor of Veterans Day. Here are some family friendly activities that you can attend on this Veteran’s Day, November 11.
Blue Angels Homecoming Airshow – Activities will occur Thursday through Saturday at various times throughout the day at Pensacola NAS.
