Tree Farms in and around Pensacola – 2011

We are giving away tickets to the December 3 Winterfest Performance Tour. See details and how to enter.

The turkey is all put away and I am all ready to decorate our house this weekend.  We are hoping to put up the Christmas tree tomorrow and get it decorated.  I love watching the kids decorate the tree.  They go through each ornament and ask to hear stories about how we got them.  They like to claim the ornaments we have bought for each of them throughout the years.  We travel a lot and we always pick up an ornament in each city to remember our travels.  The kids play “remember when” with each ornament they take out of the box.

For the past few years, we have been putting up a fake tree.  I fought it for as long as I could but my husband finally talked me into it.  I am not going to lie…I love the convenience but I miss the excitement of picking out the perfect tree.  To compromise, we make a trip to a tree farm each year to visit, wander around the trees, and more.  Here are a few Christmas tree farms in the area.  If I missed one, please leave me a note or send me an email and I will update the list!

As always, confirm the hours of operations, price, etc because things might change.  Before you go, check the website because many tree farms only accept cash or check.

Fish River Trees (Summerdale, Alabama) – We visit Fish River Trees every year and it is one of our favorite holiday family outings.  It is not just a place to cut down your Christmas tree but you can visit Santa and his reindeer, get a cup of hot chocolate, and tour the farm.  New to the farm this year is a manger scene complete with live animals!  Open daily from 8am to 5pm until December 24th.  See the website for activity schedule.

The Christmas Forest (Pensacola, Florida) – Christmas trees range from 5 to 10 feet tall and they each cost $30 no matter what size.  They have potted Christmas trees for those of you that want to plant your tree after the holiday season is over.   They are open Monday through Friday from 1pm to 5pm and Saturday from 9am to 5pm until December 20.

Whispering Pines Christmas Tree Farm (Milton, Florida) – Christmas tree prices run $2-3 a foot.  There are staff members to assist you if you need help.  They are open Monday through Sunday from 9am to 5pm until December 18th.

Winterfest 2011 and a Ticket Giveaway

*Be sure to read through the whole post to learn how to enter to win a family four pack of tickets to the Winterfest Performance Tour!

This is one of my favorite times of the year in Pensacola.  Things have settled down from all of the great fall festivals and it is time to get ready to bring in the holidays.  Winterfest is a wonderful family friendly activity to help get you in the mood for the holidays.

Each Winterfest tour begins at Plaza Wonderland, which is at the Courthouse Plaza.  Here, you can visit Santa Claus and see Rudolph’s Revue.  Rudolph’s Revue is a musical show that is shown twice nightly.  Even if you aren’t going to take one of the paid tours, Rudolphs’s Revue is a free show.  Grab a  cup of hot chocolate and enjoy the show!

There are three Winterfest tours available: Performance Tour, Rudolph’s Holiday Stroll, and Santa’s Holiday Express Tour.  The Performance Tour is a sixty minute ride that makes 12 stops for performances along the way.  The performances all feature scenes that you will recognize from Grinch, The Polar Express and more.

Performance Tours run November 25, and December 3, 9, 16, 17, and 18th.  Admission is $18 for adults and $12 for children ages 10 and under.

Rudolph’s Holiday Stroll is a one hour guided walking tour through the downtown area.  The tour makes stops to see Scrooge, Elvis, Polar Express, the Gingerbread House and more.

Rudolph’s Holiday Stroll runs the same nights as the Performance Tours: November 25, and December 3, 9, 16, 17, and 18th.  Admission is $9 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under making this an inexpensive holiday activity for your family.

Santa’s Holiday Express Tour is a good choice if you have younger children.  The tour ride is only thirty minutes long but you will still get to see many of your favorite characters.

Santa’s Holiday Express tour is available every night from December 20th to the 22nd.  Admission is $10 for adults and $6 for children 10 and under.

There are also 20 minute carriage rides available but they do not include Winterfest performances.  Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 2-10.

Tours are already selling out, so be sure to purchase your tickets if you would like to go!  Tickets can be purchased at the event or online at Winterfest.  It can get busy so I highly recommend purchasing your tickets ahead of time to avoid waiting in line and to make sure that you get the scheduled time you would like.  There is a small processing fee associated with the tickets and there is an additional fee if tickets are purchased at the event.

I am so excited to announce that we are giving away a family four pack of tickets to the December 3rd Performance Tour!  Before entering, please make sure you can attend on December 3rd!

Celebrate Mom!

My mother used to joke that everyday was Mother’s Day in our house and I tend to agree with her now that I am a mother myself!  Celebrating mom and saying thank you can be done with a simple hand drawn card from the kids are an elaborate spa gift certificate after breakfast in bed.  Here are a couple of places around Pensacola that we think are great for celebrating mom!

There are lots of restaurants making a Mother’s Day Brunch available.  Frank and Lola Love Pensacola Cafe (at Margaritaville Beach Hotel) is celebrating with a Mother’s Day Grand Buffet on Sunday that sounds absolutely delicious!  Call the restaurant for reservations.

Take mom to the Chagall for Kids exhibit’s opening weekend at the Pensacola Museum of Art.  Mom can relax for a few while the kids run out some energy.

Give mom the night off on May 5th and tell her about Mom’s Night Out at Cordova Mall where she can meet with vendors who specialize in pampering moms!

Moms will receive $5 off their admission to Belmont’s Hot Glass Cold Brew event on May 6th.

Make a Mother’s Day craft with your kids!

What do you do for your mom?  If you are a mom, what does your family do for you for Mother’s Day?
