Bricks for Kidz

Bricks for Kidz is a company that created programs where children can learn while they build with LEGO® bricks and now they have come to our area!  Activities are designed to trigger children’s imagination.  I don’t know about you, but both of my children adore their LEGO® blocks and would play with them all day long if they could!

Here are some upcoming events:

Family Fun Night at Chick Fil A on 9th Avenue – May 19th- With the purchase of an adult meal, kids will eat free at this event.  They will have a LEGO® table set up and you can stop by to get information about Bricks for Kidz

Summer Camps

They are going to have several summer camps available.  The few listed on the website right now are:

  • LEGO® to the Zoo where campers will learn about the zoo, and model building
  • Movie Making where children will spend the week planning and creating a movie of their own
  • Keep it Movin’ where children will will build models that move
  • LEGO® for a Ride where campers will create things that can drive!

In addition to summer camps, they also do birthday parties!  Stay tuned for more events and activities from Bricks for Kidz.  For more information, contact Bricks for Kidz

Beaches to Woodlands Tour – Celebrating Santa Rosa County

The 7th Annual Beaches to Woodlands Tour is starting back up again and has great family friendly activities throughout the months of September and October.  We are looking forward to visiting the Holland’s Peanut Farm, the corn maze, the Monarch Festival, Zoo Boo and Depot Days!  See the full schedule of events on the website.   We will write more about the events as they get closer!

Activities at the Gulf Breeze Zoo

I am ashamed to admit that we haven’t been out to the Gulf Breeze Zoo since it reopened to check it out.  In my defense, it has just been so hot out there that I just couldn’t bring myself to go with the kids.  However, I just read in the paper and on the zoo website that they are now staying open late on Wednesdays in July for their Animal After Hours.  The zoo will still open at the same time but will not close until 9pm.  If you don’t enter the zoo until 5, the admission is discounted to $11 an adult and $7 a child.  Not only do I love this because it will save my family some money, but also because we might actually see animals because it will not be as hot as it is in the middle of the day (though still hot probably!).  We normally spend about two hours at the zoo.

Zoo Tots is another program the zoo is doing.  On the third Saturday of each month at 9am, children 5 and under can participate in stories, activities, and even meet some animals up close and personal.  The cost is 5 dollars for one adult and one child (you can bring other people with you but you will have to pay $5 a person) in addition to the zoo admission.

For more information visit the website or the article on the PNJ.

Are you Spring Cleaning?

Gulf Coast Wings of Hope, an organization that I have mentioned before, is near and dear to my heart because it was founded by friends of mine.  They are currently collecting donations for their fundraiser, the Gulf Coast Wings of Hope Garage Sale.  If you are spring cleaning, please consider calling them to come pick up your donations.  They will accept anything except for outdated computer equipment and adult clothing.  They will be happy to schedule pickups if needed.  For more information or to schedule a pickup, please call Russell at 324-1807 or the Wings of Hope number at 607-7294.  They will give donation letters to serve as tax receipts.  Donations will be accepted until July.

Gulf Breeze Zoo Reopens

Yesterday I posted about the activities that are going on this weekend and one of my readers (and good friends!) asked about the Zoo.  The Gulf Breeze Zoo celebrated its soft opening a few Wednesdays ago.  According to some of the news articles that I read, there are a few more animals in the petting zoo, some more hands-on exhibits and a fresh look.  The zoo will celebrate its grand opening sometime in the beginning of April.   When we eventually make it out there, we will let you know what we think!

Things to Know Before You Go:

  • The new website is http://www.gulfbreezezoo.org/.  The old website, http://www.thezoonorthwestflorida.org/, is not accurate.  I did notice at the time of this post that they had cleared the majority of the information off of the site.  I am not sure which address they will be using in the future.  At this time, use this site for informational purposes.
  • Ticket prices start at $12 for adults and go down from there.
  • The Zoo is open from 9-4 daily.

Gulf Breeze Things To Do

Weekend Roundup of Activities in Pensacola

This weekend there are all kinds of great activities going on and tons of places to spot Santa!!!  Here are a few of our picks…you might see us there!

Saturday, December 12 – Pensacola Christmas Parade - This is one of our favorite activities of this season.  It is chilly outside so we make a big thermos of hot chocolate and stake out a great seat for the parade.  The kids love to look at the lights, the floats and the marching bands!  According to the website, Santa picks up letters from the kids in the crowd.  Our children were not old enough to pay attention to this aspect of the parade last year, but I am definitely going to have my kids write their letters today!

Saturday, December 12 – Storytime at Barnes and Noble – The children will be reading Merry Christmas, Splat.  According to the calendar, there will be no craft or activity.  Enjoy the story and then do some Christmas shopping with your little ones!

Saturday, December 12 and Sunday, December 13 – Christmas in the Park - Big Lagoon State Park – From 4pm to 9pm, take a walk through Big Lagoon State Park and check out all the Christmas decorations and lights.  Santa will be there around 6pm!  According to the website, park admission is waived if you are participating in this event!

Sunday, December 13 - Surfing Santa Beach Parade - Didn’t get enough parade on Saturday?  Head to Gulf Breeze to watch the Surfing Santa Beach Parade.  Santa left his sleigh in the North Pole and will be arriving on a fire truck!
