What: Outdoor movies; Where: Palafox Pier; When: scheduled once a month; Cost: FREE

Friday Family Flicks returns to Downtown Pensacola this weekend. Friday Family Flicks is a series of movies that are shown on an outdoor screen on Palafox Pier. The movie schedule is as follows (movie titles are subject to change without prior notice):
- May 20, 2011 – The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader PG
- June 17, 2011 – Yogi Bear G
- July 15, 2011 – Diary of a Wimpy Kid2: Rodrick Rules PG
- August 19, 2011 – Rio G
You will want to arrive early enough to get a good seat. That being said, we didn’t have any difficulties seeing the screen from a blanket on the ground. The movie starts at dusk which is usually around 8pm. There are various vendors that sell popcorn, drinks and other food. We usually pack a picnic dinner or pick up dinner from one of our favorite restaurants and snack our way through the movie!
What: Chagall for Children Exhibit (hands-on learning about art!); Where: Pensacola Museum of Art; When: On loan from the Kohl Children’s Museum of Greater Chicago until September 4th; Museum is open Tues-Fri 10 to 5pm and Sat-Sun Noon to 5pm; Cost: Adults $5; Children under 5 Free; Discounts for students and active duty military; FREE Admission on Tuesdays

We made sure that we visited the Chagall for Children exhibit at the Pensacola Museum of Art during the Opening Reception. We had a great time and the kids loved exploring the different parts of the exhibit. Each exhibit activity is focused around a Chagall painting. For example, for Job Tapestry, children can practice weaving on a large weaving screen.

We visited the museum with a friend and all four children worked for several minutes trying to create a tapestry of their own! My daughter’s favorite part was the phone that was found at each station. The phone plays a recording with information about many of the paintings. Listening to the phone, she would exclaim different phrases she heard about the painting while pointing out what the recording was talking about.

We give this exhibit a big thumbs up and hope you will stop by! The Pensacola Museum of Art offers free entry on Tuesdays but it does get crowded in the summer with day cares and group visits.

The Pensacola Museum of Art is located at 407 S. Jefferson Street and the contact number is 850-432-6247.
The Pensacola Museum of Art has secured the Chagall for Children exhibit on loan from the Kohl Children’s Museum of Greater Chicago. It will be at the Pensacola Museum of Art from May 6th to September 4th, 2011. We are so very excited about this! I love the fact that the Pensacola Museum of Art is trying to incorporate more child friendly exhibits in the museum! The Chagall for Children exhibit will include hands-on interactive stations that encourage play while learning about Chagall’s painting.
There will be an opening reception on May 6th from 5pm to 7pm. This is open to the public and is FREE! PWK will be there checking it out and we will tell you all about it afterwards! If you can’t make it to the free reception, don’t forget that the Pensacola Museum of Art offers free entry on Tuesdays!

Don’t forget that Sunsets at Plaza de Luna have already gotten started!

The Kid’s Fishing Clinic will begin at 8am. Children ages 4 to 14 will make their way through hands on stations where they will learn about casting, knot tying, fishing tackle, being an ethical angler and they will also get a chance to see a touch tank. Children will receive a free rod and reel (as supplies last) and then they might even get a chance to give fishing a try!

What: Multicultural Day; Where: Pensacola Museum of Art; When: March 12 from noon to 4pm; Cost: FREE

The Pensacola Museum of Art is hosting a Multicultural Day on March 12 from noon to 4pm. You can spend the afternoon exploring almost a dozen different cultures through art, performances, and more. There will also be craft projects for the kids to do!
The Pensacola Grand Mardi Gras parade is this weekend, March 5! Many of you will be heading out there with your families to catch beads, moon pies, and look at the floats! We don’t know everything about attending parades (as a matter of fact, I have always preferred to watch them on the television even though my kids love to see them in person!) but I shared a few tips we have learned along the way over at Traveling Mom. I shared this earlier in the week on our Facebook fan page, but wanted to link it here in case you missed it!
Are you heading to the Mardi Gras Parade? Do you have any tips to help us have an enjoyable time?
What: Brewery Tour; Where: Downtown Pensacola; When: Open M-Thurs 11am-8pm, F-Sat 11am-10pm; Sun 12-6pm; Cost: Free tastings, Cream Soda, Rootbeer and Beer for purchase

When you think of the Pensacola Bay Brewery, throwing your kids in the car and heading down there for a visit might not be the first thing you would do. But we did exactly that the other day and had a blast! I have been wanting to stop by the Pensacola Bay Brewery since I heard it opened but haven’t been able to. When we met our friends at Dolce, I realized that the brewery is located right next door so we walked over after our gelato date. When we walked in with three children, they didn’t blink an eye (of course it was only 11am…we weren’t visiting at 8 o’clock at night!)!
The little ones were able to try their Cannonball Rootbeer and they also have Doubloon Cream Soda.

Cannonball Rootbeer
I asked if children were welcome (as my child sat next to me!) to visit and tour. They said absolutely. The Pensacola Bay Brewery has tours scheduled every Saturday afternoon on the hour. They also set up group tours in advance. We are advocates of factory tours and learning how things are made so I will probably bring my school aged son back one weekend.
Things to Know Before You Go:
- They only take cash or check but do have an ATM on site.
- If I visit with the family again, I will visit during their early afternoon hours when it isn’t very crowded.
- If you want to tour, be sure to call ahead to confirm they are doing tours that day. Tours are sometimes cancelled due to where they are in the brewing process.
