Waffle Cone Wednesday at TCBY – Pensacola, Florida

We try to eat pretty healthy around the house, but we love our treats!  I can’t believe I didn’t know about this before last week.  Did you know that the TCBY in the Bayou Blvd Target shopping center has 99 cent waffle cones on Wednesdays?!?  For just over three dollars I was able to treat all three of us to waffle cones…they were huge!  Next time we go, I will ask them to not put as much frozen yogurt in the cone.

As always, be sure to call ahead to make sure this promotion is still going on.  TCBY is located at 4771 Bayou Blvd, Pensacola, FL 32503 and the contact number is (850) 475-8048.

J’s Bakery – Pensacola, Florida

Mystery Photo Monday #9 Answer

Yesterday, I asked if you knew where these signature smiley faces can be purchased!

When my kids see the bright white box these treats come in, they immediately want to open it and see what I have brought home.  We don’t go often so it is such a special treat to get these happy smiley face cookies from J’s Pastry!  If I bring the kids with me, Big S heads right for the smiley face cookie and Little S heads for the brightly decorated cupcakes.  We haven’t tried anything that we didn’t like.  We love the cinnamon bread, the bran muffins, the petits fours (my absolute favorite), all the different cookies.  Oh wait…I take that back.  My family was not impressed with the chocolate cake we had at a friend’s house but they would choose a white/yellow cake over a chocolate cake any day.  On the other hand, the pound cake is absolutely divine!!!

We splurged and bought Little S an elaborate Halloween birthday cake at J’s this year and we were pleasantly surprised to find that we didn’t really spend any more money than we would have if we had gone to Publix or Walmart.  Of course the cake was a hit with both Little S and the guests!

We also love to stop next door and pick up a sandwich at City Grocery.

Things to Know Before You Go:

  • J’s takes cash, credit cards, and checks but be prepared to spend at least 10 dollars if you are using credit cards or checks.  You can get out of J’s spending only a dollar or two if you are going for a small treat, but make sure you have cash!
  • It is very busy in the mornings so if you are bringing the kids for a fun outing, avoid the morning rush and head over around 10 in the morning.  The majority of their goodies will still be available and you will have the whole store almost to yourself and plenty of time to shop.
  • Order your cakes or petits fours in advance.  We have never had a problem placing an order, but we always place our order at least a week in advance.

J’s Pastry Shop is located at 2014 N. 12th Avenue, Pensacola, FL 32503 and their contact number is 850.432.4180.

Free Breakfast at Chik-fil-A 9 Mile Road

I am not sure how I missed this because we love Chik-Fil-A almost as much as we love free stuff!  Chik-fil-A on 9 mile Road is giving away a featured breakfast item every Tuesday in February from 6:30-10:30am.  For more details and to confirm the information, see the flyer.

The Liberty Cafe – Milton, Florida

Before wandering the Milton Riverwalk, we had lunch at the Liberty Cafe.  As soon as we walked in the door, we were greeted with a big hello!  Luckily, we got there early so we were finishing up lunch right when the lunch rush started coming in.  The woman helping us did tell us that when court is in session they are usually slammed.  I had the French Dip and some of the best potato salad I have tasted yet!

And for dessert?

The kids were welcomed and treated to a cookie after their lunch.  We used a buy one, get one coupon from the Gulf Coast Savings coupon book so the meal was inexpensive.

The Liberty Cafe is 5237 Willing Street, Milton, FL‎ and the phone number is (850) 623-3331‎.

Papa John’s Pass the Pie Sweepstakes – NWFL area

We love Papa John’s in this household so it was a no-brainer when I was recently contacted by Papa John’s with information about their Pass the Pie sweepstakes. As a matter of fact, Papa John’s is pretty much the only pizza my kids will eat and we have their phone number in our phones! My husband would eat pizza every night if allowed!  Our favorite Papa John’s is off of 9mile next to Joey Patti’s.  They are always friendly, the service is quick and the one time I had an issue with my order it was fixed immediately.

I have already put my own entry into the sweepstakes. The chance to win 52 free pizzas for the year is too good to pass up!  Here are details about the sweepstakes taken directly from the email I received:

  • This sweepstakes is open exclusively to Florida and Alabama residents of the following counties: Escambia (FL), Okaloosa (FL), Santa Rosa (FL), Walton (FL), Bay (FL), Houston (AL) and Coffee (AL).
  • The winner will receive a year’s worth of free pizza from Papa John’s.
  • To enter: Fill out the form at http://passthepienwflorida.com/ After you enter, you will be asked to share contest details with your friends on Twitter or Facebook.
  • Everyone who enters will receive a special discount to Northwest Florida-area Papa John’s locations for his/her time.

Entering the sweepstakes just takes a second.  After entering, you will be asked if you want to post the information to your Facebook or Twitter account.  If you do, you will be given a coupon code for your next Papa John’s purchase.

For additional savings, you can follow Papa John’s on Facebook or Twitter.  On Monday, they posted that in celebration of 2010, you can buy any large pizza and then get another large 1-topping pizza for only 10 cents using their coupon code!!

I did receive a free large pizza coupon code for announcing the sweepstakes.  However, we frequent Papa John’s about once a month and the recommendation is based solely on my experiences and opinion with no outside influence (except for maybe my husband!).

My 3 Best Kept Travel Secrets – 3 Surprisingly Kid-Friendly Restaurants in Pensacola

In December, I was tagged by both Amy, at The Q Family Adventures, and Corinne, at Have Baby Will Travel, to participate in Tripbase’s 3 Best Kept Travel Secrets on my family travel blog (Two Kids and a Map).

“The aim of this game is to unite travel bloggers in a joint endeavor – to create an amazing list of top travel recommendations across the globe to share with the entire online travel community.”

For Pensacola with Kids, I am going to share with you three restaurants that at first glance do not appear kid-friendly but really are!  On the surface, all three of these restaurants appear to be not so kid-friendly.  They are a bit more pricey and the food is a bit fancier than our regular McDonald’s or Chik-fil-A fare but we have spent several fabulous family meals at each of them!

1.  Atlas Oyster Bar - Located on the water, Atlas draws a lot of the after work happy hour and sushi eating crowd.  My husband and I will often go to Atlas (or its sister restaurant, The Fish House) for a date night.  One evening, we headed to Atlas after a photo shoot nearby with four kids.  I was craving their lettuce wraps and we just wanted a place to show the kids how amazing the sunset can be!  You can sit outside so that the kids can chat and play with each other.  There is lots to look at while you wait for your food: the cars driving across 3mile bridge, the boats pulling in and unloading, the sun setting, and the different birds flying around.  The kid’s menu offers the chicken nugget staple as well as some fish and shrimp options.

2.  Jerry’s Cajun Cafe – Previously, I had only had take out or lunch at Jerry’s Cajun Cafe both without my kids!  We had some friends in town who had previously lived in Pensacola and their number one meal request was dinner at Jerry’s Cajun Cafe.  I was a little concerned because in the past the only children I had seen in the restaurant were sleeping in an infant carrier…and we were going in with 5 children ranging in ages from infant to 7.  Yikes!  We even packed lots of hearty snacks because we were worried that we wouldn’t be able to find anything suitable on the menu.  Surprisingly, Jerry’s Cajun Cafe offers an extensive kid’s menu featuring chicken nuggets, hot dogs, sandwiches, burgers and seafood.  Items that are not spicy are labeled clearly!  This is one place where my children have been welcomed with open arms.  The waiters and waitresses spoke directly to my children asking if they wanted more to drink or crayons to color with.  And right now, you can purchase a Gambino’s King Cake to celebrate Mardi Gras!  Check out the website for a coupon for $5 off your $25 purchase (expires at end of February).

3.  Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse -  Before we had kids, we would head to Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse for a date night.  Now it has become a place for a fun family meal.  We sit at the hibachi table and the kids love the show.  The chefs that prepare our meal have always gotten the kids involved in a fun way.  The restaurant has so much going on that it is a little noisy so your kids can enjoy themselves without you worrying about who they are bothering.  Tokyo is one place where I don’t have to worry about paying for a meal and my kids NOT eating it.  They will devour the rice and chicken before my husband and I have even gotten our meal plated!  We haven’t been in a little while, but last time I drove by the restaurant I saw a sign that said kids eat free with an adult meal.  Call ahead of time to make sure!

To continue this TripBase blog tag, I would like to tag one more blogger - Outdoor Gulf Coast.

Do you have a favorite restaurant that on the surface might not appear very family friendly but really is?  If so, please share in the comments!

The Whirled Cup – Pensacola, Florida – CLOSED

The Whirled Cup is CLOSED for good.

Last weekend, a friend and I went to the Old Farmhouse Craft Fair and while we were driving we passed The Whirled Cup.  We both had heard a lot about this cafe, but neither of us had been yet.  When we remembered that our coupon book had a coupon in it, we decided that we would stop by for lunch on our way home.  Boy, are we glad we did!  The Whirled Cup has a great atmosphere.  The staff is friendly and the food was fantastic and reasonably priced.  The kid’s meals are well-priced as well.  We both had the Funky Chicken Salad and the hummus was tasty.

The best part was the kid’s room.  There is this great little room that has toys and little chairs set up.  There is a little window so that you can sit at a table and enjoy your lunch while your children play.  Just be sure to keep a close eye on them.
