Sunday Show and Tell – Evenings in Olde Seville Square, Concerts in the Park

Every Sunday, we will have Show and Tell! This will give you the chance to share your favorite things to do in Pensacola! If you would like to participate, email your submission to me at jennifer (at) pensacolawithkids (dot) com. Be sure to include links and pictures if you would like!  Don’t worry if your favorite place has already been written about…we welcome all submissions.  You might be able to teach us something new about a favorite place! Thanks to Marissa for this week’s Sunday Show and Tell.  This is a timely discussion because the concerts start next week! Marissa is mom to two kids.

My favorite place to go/thing to do in Pensacola with my kids and family rolls around every summer time. “Evenings in Olde Seville Square” is a weekly concert series that takes place in downtown Pensacola at the Gazebo in Seville Square, showcasing local musical talent. The concerts are every Thursday in the summer and start at 7:00pm; however, as the years have gone by the popularity of the concerts has GREATLY increased! I recommend you arrive at 6:00pm to get a parking spot, a good seat and get yourself set up. The concerts are free, however I ALWAYS join the membership club which is only $15.00 for the entire summer. For this low fee, you are entered into the weekly raffle for free dinners, prizes like wine and cheese baskets, mailing list, and more. You do not have to be present to win the prizes. This money helps pay for the sound and lighting, insurance, rentals, and more, and is vital to help keep this terrific Pensacola event going. This is not just a concert, but an awesome family experience! We love to sit and listen to the excellent music each week. Everyone hangs out and gets to know the regulars who all sit in their same general areas. We also use this time to celebrate events such as birthdays, taking friends out from out-of-town; we have even had a couple bachelor/bachelorette parties there! The music is terrific and we all have our favorites. I always make sure to see the Swinging Dick Tracy’s and the Steel Drums.

As seasoned veterans of the concerts in the park, let me give you a list of things I do NOT leave home without!

·We stop somewhere along the way to buy Subway or something for dinner and throw it in a bag, however they have several vendors selling hotdogs and such

· Backpack style picnic bag that will carry a wine bottle – I carry only plastic wine glasses though and don’t forget the bottle opener

· Shin-height roll-up table· Umbrella-fold-up chairs (easiest to carry) including kid sized because they carry their own!

· Roll out blanket or bamboo mat for kids to sit and play on

· Bug spray and mini picnic style citronella candle

· Kids carry a back pack with books and action figures

· Hats/sunglasses

· Rolling cooler/bag to carry drinks and snacks for the kids especially – also helps to have as an extra table top

· Napkins, forks/spoons, and wet wipes and any other picnic ware
